In the first half of the year, the hub welcomed 27,884,888 passengers, increasing 161.9% from H1 2021.
DXB has achieved this milestone. Despite a large capacity loss brought on by the 45-day shutdown of its northern runway in May and June for a significant renovation project.
DXB had 14.2 million passengers in the 2nd quarter of the year 2022, a year-over-year increase of 190.6%, continuing its growth recovery for the ninth consecutive quarter since the start of the pandemic.
With traffic for the first half reaching 4 million passengers, India remained DXB’s top destination country by passenger numbers. Top city destinations like Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad. The UK came in second with 1.9 million passengers, closely followed by Saudi Arabia with 2 million. Pakistan (1.7 million travelers) and the US (1.4 million passengers) are two more noteworthy nations.
Flights – DXB handled 154,993 air movements in total during the first half of 2022, an increase of 55.9% from the same period in 2021. During the first half of 2019, the figure reflects 87% of the pre-pandemic flight movements at DXB.
DXB has recovered remarkably from the effects of the global pandemic, and this position has been enhanced throughout 2022, especially during the second quarter. According to Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, the company has not only successfully managed the recovery but has also consistently provided excellent customer service.
Waiting time – Smart Gates is already accelerating visitors’ immigration procedures as a result of DXB’s investment in cutting-edge biometric technology, and the sophisticated operations control center makes better use of real-time data to enhance service and efficiency at all touchpoints. The lack of customer wait times has also persisted despite increased traffic.
97% of all passengers spent an average of less than 3 minutes in line at the exit security check during the first half, while 96% of passengers queued for less than 5 minutes at passport control.
Baggage – An remarkable accomplishment for the busiest international hub in the world, the 175km long baggage handling system at DXB handled a total of 27.1 million bags in the first half of 2022 with a success rate of 99.8% (mishandled luggage rate of 1.75 bags per 1,000 passengers). 92% of all luggage was delivered within 30 minutes of arrival, according to the statistics on baggage delivery.
Dubai Airports has revised upward its annual forecast for 2022 to 62.4 million passengers based on a good first half and projection of an even stronger second half, with average monthly traffic expected to reach 5.6 million passengers.
