The “Creative Innovation Challenge” was announced by Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), which invited local, regional, and international creative entrepreneurs to offer novel solutions that would aid in the preservation of the Emirates tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

A group of the best competitors will have the chance to appear on the Dubai Culture platform “North Star Dubai,” the biggest event for start-ups and entrepreneurs in the region, which will be hosted by the Dubai World Trade Center from 17–20 October, in addition to cash prizes for the top three winners.

The occasion will take place in conjunction with GITEX Global 2022, the foremost technology exposition in the area.

Idea:

The Creative Innovation Challenge is an international-level competition that seeks to draw the top local and international start-ups in the creative & cultural industries to create concepts for using modern technologies to help preserve Emirati heritage.

The goal is to provide users with an interactive experience that they can interact with, promoting the sharing of knowledge and experiences.

Awards & Benefits

20 participants will be chosen by a specialized team from Dubai World Trade Centre. After the submission period has ended, the top 10 participants will be shortlisted and given the chance to present their creative ideas for heritage preservation as part of the Creative Economy space under North Star Dubai.

The submissions will then be evaluated by a panel of experts, who will choose three to receive cash awards of $5,000, $3,000, and $1,000.

The 10 nominees will also have the opportunity to be chosen for the GITEX Supernova Challenge’s Best Creative Economy category, where they could win a $10,000 prize.

Startups can participate in the investor program through the Creative Innovation Challenge, giving them the chance to network with some of the most well-known investors in the world.

The start-ups will also receive passes that will allow them access to the conference and exhibition areas, as well as the competition and GITEX Global.

They will also be invited to a forum for cutting-edge international start-ups, which will aid them in developing a prestigious business network. Each shortlisted international company will provide one representative with flight and hotel accommodations.

As the government agency in charge of Dubai’s cultural and creative industry, Hala Badri said: “We are eager to find creative ways to document, preserve, and celebrate the elements of our rich Emirati heritage.

This is especially significant because access to cultural heritage is necessary for society’s development and for fostering a sense of continuity and identity.

As the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) promotes, it also consolidates cultural diversity and human creativity.

Dubai Culture’s participation in this important Middle Eastern technical event is consistent with its belief that innovation and creativity characterize our modern era and must exist in the culture and arts sector,” Badri continued.

Additionally, they are a part of the Authority’s dedication to assisting the “Dubai Smart City” initiative and its effort to offer a cutting-edge platform for the cultural and creative industries as well as creative entrepreneurs.

Through the Creative Innovation Challenge, we are happy to give start-ups in this industry the chance to present their innovations to a global audience, take part in the promotion of cultural advancement, and research how to put participating solutions into practice and profit from them at the local and regional levels.

UNESCO

UNESCO divides cultural heritage into two groups: tangible heritage and intangible heritage. As well as military and civil structures like forts, palaces, castles, dams, towers, and historical walls, tangible cultural heritage also includes monuments, buildings, religious and historical sites, and artifacts from religious buildings like mosques, temples, and tombs.

For example, oral expressions, performing arts, social practices, festive occasions, or knowledge and skills related to the creation of traditional crafts are examples of living traditions or modes of expression that have been passed down from our ancestors to our descendants.

Information about the challenge

In addition to taking into account the requirements of People of Determination, language barriers, etc., the submitted solutions must be creative, appealing, scalable, affordable, reliable, and simple to use. Additionally, the solutions must be long-lasting, practical, sensitive to the environment and the context in which they are used, and supportive of preserving cultural heritage.

The following examples of suggested subject matter:

• A 3D experience set in a traditional-looking neighborhood with a rich history.

• Digital tools that can store particular craft skills to help resurrect, preserve, and pass them on interactively to future generations.

• Technologies that can help with the investigation, preservation, and communication of cultural heritage for the present and the future.
