Starting from January 01, 2022, the public sector entities will be following a four-and-a-half day working week in compliance with the UAE government’s decision. The workweek will kick off at Monday (7:30am – 3:30pm) subsequently till Thursday with only up to 12:00pm on Friday. The move makes UAE the first nation in the world to introduce a shorter working week than global five day workweek.
The tweet further read that the move is in agreement with the vision of UAE government to cement its position as the most effective and competent hub for business and economic development in the region. However, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation Abdulrahman al-Awar said that the private companies according to the sector they operate in and consider what is best for them are free to choose their own working week; only the public sector and schools will conform to the order. The change is also said to have taken place to align the economy of UAE with global markets.
